Day 28 - Memphis, Tennessee to West Memphis, Arkansas (19 Miles)
Frustrating day today. Spent a couple of hours negotiating the complex urban maze of bicyclist unfriendly roads and bridges through Memphis and West Memphis. By then it was mid-day and according to every mobile app and other resource I could find there were absolutely no campgrounds or motels for the next 80 miles of the Mississippi River Trail. Several locals at the West Memphis Subway confirmed this fact and urged caution. I rode to the western edge of West Memphis and decided that in this instance discretion was the better part of valor. In addition to the imposing distance there was a steady 5-10 mph SE wind and the forecast high this afternoon was 87 degrees. So I retreated to a motel in West Memphis and now plan to take off at the break of dawn tomorrow morning for the long ride through eastern Arkansas.
