Day 29 - West Memphis, Arkansas to Helena, Arkansas (90 Miles)
Long, hard ride into the wind on a warm day; but it was great! Met a lot of nice people: farmer Terry whose second corn crop of the year is knee high and should be ready for harvest by Thanksgiving; Deputy Caleb, who stopped just to talk - no ticket or even a warning; some locals at lunch in Horseshoe Lake - great fried chicken and catfish; and some guys hanging out in Hughes, AR. Best part of the day was landing in Helena,AR just in time for the annual King Biscuit Blues Festival featuring Delbert McClinton, Buddy Guy, Keb Mo and dozens of other great bands! Unscheduled day off on Saturday to hear more music! Camping at the festival campground and meeting all kinds of cool people from all over who share a love for the blues! By the way, Helena is the town from which the King Biscuit Blues radio program has been broadcast live daily at 12:15 p.m. Central Time since 1941.
